Perfect

Biography

When it comes to music, you have to expect the unexpected. In Perfect’s eyes, it’s the highly addictive melodies and his unique, out-of-box storytelling that brings a breath of fresh air to the world of music. “I have a style of poetic lyrics and dreamy visuals that are meant to grab you—as if you’re reading a heartfelt letter. It almost feels like I might actually, truly be perfect.”

Raised through the adversity and struggles of small-town syndrome, Perfect learned early on how to make something out of nothing. His creative ability stems from countless hours spent using his vivid and active imagination as a child. Music runs through his DNA, as his father, grandfather, and many other family members also pursued their passion for it.

At the age of 16, Perfect was introduced to the world of high-end studios and quickly realized he would have to crave his own path once again. He taught himself how to produce, mix, and master his own music. He began mixing songs for family members and local rappers in his neighbor, quietly building his career behind the scenes. Although he’s still early in his journey, he feels he has uncapped potential to grow into something spectacular— fueled by the fresh ideas and vibrant energy he brings to the game.

Q: Who are your music influences? Who would you like to work with?

Perfect: “I’d say Andre 3000, Lucki, until Japan, Drake, Future, Young Thug and Rich Homie Quan.”

Q: What inspired you to pursue music?

Perfect: “My older cousins growing up all made music and that would be the only thing I listened to before I discovered more mainstream music.”

Q: How do you approach creating music?

Perfect: “As art, its something that comes to you when you have something to say or when you can’t say anything at all. It’s healing, it’s fun, it’s a reflection of you.”

Q: What is one of your favorite songs that you’ve written or performed and why?

Perfect: “NeedTime*+” is my favorite song because that is when I found myself creatively and every song after is a branch of that. Also, my favorite song to perform is an unrelated song off one of my upcoming albums called “Dirty Dancing”. That song is so fun.”

Q: What are your thoughts on the music industry right now?

Perfect: “Honestly, it’s failing — mainstream is dead, and niche artists are thriving, but not entirely, because the higher ups in the industry are too busy trying to push their own agenda.”

Q: How do you continue to grow as an artist?

Perfect: “I keep making art. I keep discovering more about what I like and who I am as a person, so I can reflect it in my music. I always try to swing the pendulum and color outside the lines.”

Q: Is there anything else you would like for us to know about you?

Perfect: “I’ll be #1 soon.”

Q: Where can The Musiq Plug fans find you and your music?

Perfect: “IG:@SinCitySincerelyyy”

Dayday

Biography

Dayday is a 27-year old 90’s baby who was born in Pasadena, and has always been big on family. He grew up listening to a lot of music—from the 80s, 90s, all that good stuff. His cousins and siblings were always into great music, and he says that’s how he got into it himself. Dayday was constantly surrounded by music, and he developed a natural curiosity for it.

Q: What inspired you to pursue music?

Dayday: “On my dad’s side of the family, we have a lot of producers. My younger cousin is one of my favorite producers right now—he makes a lot of beats and stuff like that. One day in 2016 or 2017, he was just like, ‘Let’s make a song real quick for fun.’ That’s how I started rapping, but I always had little raps in my notebook when I was a kid. I never actually started taking it seriously until recently. All of my friends are artists, and they inspired me to take it a little more seriously. So that’s how I really got into it.”

Q: Who are your music influences? Who would you like to work with?

Dayday: “Honestly, right now my biggest influences are my friends Cartier Key, T3razyyy, J Anthony, and ATB wavy. People don’t know them as well yet, but I’m pretty sure they will soon. As far as big artists, people like J. Cole, Drake, and Kendrick influence me. If you’re talking about R&B, you can look at artists like Mary J. Blige and Aaliyah. And Kanye at one point—but you already know how that’s going right now. I get influenced by everybody, which always inspires me to be different and do my own thing.”

Q: How do you approach creating music?

Dayday: “ I have to hear the beat first, because the beat gives me the inspiration for what the song is going to be. For example, if a producer names a beat something like Sunday Afternoon and it gives off a Sunday-afternoon vibe, then that works for me. It’s rare that I already have an idea or a rap written before I hear the beat. I usually try to do that, but it never turns out the way I picture it in my head when I first write the rap. So whatever the beat makes me feel—that’s what I put into the song.”

Q: What is one of your favorite songs that you’ve written or performed and why?

Dayday: “It would probably be “Never Sober” on my EP “Obsessed”. It’s my favorite one because it came from such an organic, soulful place. I don’t know where I got that from but it just came out of me. It’s really heartfelt. That is some of the music I really love right there, that soulful music, the oldies used to have.”

Q: What are your thoughts on the music industry right now?

Dayday: “Ooowee… the music industry right now? I don’t know. I think it’s crazy and dope that anyone can really become an artist. Whether you make it big or not—that’s probably the hard part. It just depends on you and how hard you’re willing to work, how consistent you are, and all that stuff. I think it’s dope that everybody can bring something to the table; you just have to look for it. The actual industry itself has changed so much from back then From vinyls to CDs and tapes, and now it’s just pure streaming, it’s changed a lot.”

Q: Is there anything else you would like for us to know about you?

Dayday: “Hmmm… I’m just doing my thing. I love music, man. I love the music, love the game. I love being creative. I’ve always been creative growing up—from drawing to painting to sculpting. Any type of art you can think of , I’ve probably done it. This is another side of me that I’m starting to really explore. Hopefully people mess with it, and I continue to get better and grow even more. I’m going to keep releasing new stuff and see how people react to it.”

Q: How do you continue to grow as an artist?

Dayday: “I continue to grow by living life, being open to experiences, and new sounds that it brings on top of surrounding myself with my piers.”

Q: Where can The Musiq Plug fans find you and your music?

Dayday: “People can find me on IG at smh.day_ and on music platforms, Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube we’re working on that, but at Dayday like Black Friday, D A Y D A Y.”
